How do I apply gray/black eyeshadow without it looking overwhelming?

I want to wear dark eyeshadow for a party I'm going to, I have a fair complexion with dark brown hair (if that matters)...

I just want to know what the best application tips are for not making me look like a raccoon or like I have two black eyes all bruised up and stuff.

To get a subtle smoky eye, you might want to try a gray cream shadow. Jusr sweep it over your eyelids using your fingers. That way you don't have to be precise. Good luck!
