Is a 7mm magnum to small for elk in Oregon?

Want to use one to hunt both black tail and elk in the cascades and coast range.

It is a great and famous elk killing round. It has a tad more power than the 30-06 and a tad more range...and of course a tad more recoil.

If anything, to an inexperienced shooter the 7mm remmag will have too much recoil, but if you have grown up shooting 12 gauge shotguns and such it will be no problem
