Shirt Black

Style question: at a black tie event, can I wear a grey suit with a white shirt and a black tie?

It's quite a light grey, but with a white shirt/black tie combo, it shouldn't be bad form?

Black tie event traditionally means tuxedo or a black suit. Not necessarily a "black tie" with a grey suit or any other suit for that matter. Things are casual in the US so I guess it depends on where ur going.
