Team Softball

How to motivate a softball team?
I am the captain of our 18 and under softball team. We do not play as a team, nor do we act like we want to be at the games or at practices. I don't know what to do anymore. I try to encourage, cheer, and make it fun, yet nothing works. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!
I appreciate the advice. Thank you all. =D
Unfortunately there is no simple answer. Look at this another way, what kind of team are you on? If it's a rec team, or a competitive team w/ rec players, they might not be as serious as you. Does you team lose a lot? They might be thinking "we're going to lose anyway, so why should I try?" Do you have bad coaches? This is another motivation killer. The whole "shopping, sleepover, let's be good friends thing" is a good team building plan, but it won't help when you're going to a game, and the team attitude is "well here we go again".
Having a team meeting could be a good idea, but can also backfire big time. The best thing to do here (I think) is to get another player on board with you before you call a team meeting. Also, let the coach know that the team will have a 'players only meeting '. It might be more receptive if it's done in more of a social setting, like pizza at your house instead of after practice where tempers might be a little high. Above all, don't use this time as a finger pointing session. Have a plan, know what points you want to cover and welcome discussion. If there's a lot of "in-fighting", you might be better off changing teams. Your object is to identify what the problem is and "how do we fix it"?
What ever you decide to do, I hope it works out
